How to connect a gas hob properly, detailed step-by-step instructions – Separate gas equipment — a hob and an oven — is installed in a similar manner to a traditional gas stove, but it has its own characteristics. Since they don’t use an oven or prefer an electric model, some users just attach a gas hob.
If you want to do the installation work yourself or keep an eye on the work of professionals, we recommend that you look into how to attach the gas hob.
Connecting a gas stove in stages
The installation of equipment takes less than an hour; the majority of the time is spent on preliminary work and contacting the wizard for advice.
There are four stages to the process:
Many preparatory steps lie behind each stage: the purchasing of gas equipment and related materials, the scheduling of a specialist’s visit, and the preparation of kitchen modules for appliance installation. To avoid mistakes, we will examine each stage separately.
1# Preparation of equipment and supplies
A hob should be purchased ahead of time. If this isn’t an option, you’ll need to know the exact measurements. Generally, all 4-burner models meet the minimum of 50 * 60 cm (+/- 2 cm), whereas 3- and 2-burner models are narrower.
You’ll also need the following materials in addition to gas equipment:
- insert dielectric;
- 1 or 2 flexible gas hoses
- Thread made of linen.
Installation fasteners are normally included, so you won’t have to buy them.
A typical collection of tools that any home master should have is a pair of gas keys, a screwdriver, and pliers. If cutting a metal pipe is needed, the members of the service organization are concerned – it is impossible to perform any acts independently with gas supply pipes.
2# Cutting holes in the countertop
You can cut a hole in the countertop ahead of time if you know the exact dimensions of the hob. Naturally, the factory will do it more professionally, since cutting a neat rectangle with right angles and even sides is critical.
When the countertop is made of a more durable material, such as artificial stone, rather than chipboard, MDF, or wood, the assistance of furniture makers is beneficial.
Use a light and productive method, such as a jigsaw, if you plan to create a hole yourself.
Steps to take:
- Examine the assembly diagram and fine-tune the panel dimensions.
- Make the recommended indentation from the wall on the table top.
- Apply paper tape around the perimeter and trace the outline of the fragment you intend to erase with a pencil or marker.
- Using a jigsaw, make a hole. It is suggested that you make a near cut first, then cut against the wall, and finally cut on the foot.
- Remove the countertop that has been cut.
- If the panel is nearby, put it on right away.
If the countertop material crumbles where the cut is made, you can treat the edges with any glue composition after sanding and vacuuming. Chipboard is made of sanitary silicone, which also protects the edges from moisture.
To avoid being exposed to a high-temperature tabletop, you can use a thermal foil or an aluminum tape reflector.
3# Connecting the panel to the power grid
Due to the fact that modern hobs have an electric ignition function, you may need to add a power outlet.
An electric oven is often installed in conjunction with a gas stove. You’ll need the following to link a computer with a maximum power of 3.5 kW:
- 2.5 mm vvg-p three-core cable
- 16 A socket with a grounding conductor;
- If the package does not have a connecting wire, use the PVC cable 3 * 2.5 mm and the connector.
A 3.5 mm cable and a 40 A socket are needed for a more powerful oven.
The height of the outlet installation should not exceed 90 cm, and it should not be on the same level as the hob, according to the specifications.
A separate RCD or difavtomat is mounted separately on a line of gas cooking equipment for switchboard safety.
The outlet is installed in the traditional manner: first, the mounting box is installed in the wall, then the terminals are mounted, and finally, the decorative panel is installed on top. This article has more information about how to mount sockets for electric stoves.
Regulations for safety:
- The manufacturer advises that you hire a licensed electrician;
- A plate with technical requirements presented to the mains is located on the device’s bottom side, from which it is difficult to deviate;
The electric cable cannot be twisted, clamped, or laid in close proximity to sharp corners. - It is important to separate all conductive elements and provide protection against accidental contact after installation.
- The unit can only be repaired after it has been removed from the mains.
4# connecting the gas line to the panel
A flexible adapter – a hose no longer than 2 meters – is needed for a proper connection of the hob to gas. Longer hoses are often used due to awkward layouts, but this is against the laws of gas equipment activity.
Various gas liners with cotton, rubber, and metal braid are available for purchase. Bellows hoses, which are distinguished by wear resistance and a longer service life, are becoming increasingly common.
A dielectric insert is required in addition to the hose. It’s attached to the pipe just ahead of the shut-off valve.
The dielectric acts as a safety precaution, shielding both the equipment and the users from stray currents.
Assuming that the coupling is already mounted, we proceed as follows:
- The gas hose is connected to the dielectric. If not, go straight to the metal pipe after the tap. We use flax or fum tape for adjoining density.
- We find a small threaded pipe on the bottom side of the panel and wind the hose in the same direction.
There is no need to take any further action.
Using two eyeliners if you want to bind the gas stove and oven at the same time. However, bear in mind that not all Gorgaz members welcome connections made via a tee! Employees at MosGaz, for example, write a prescription and insist on a gas pipe route.
For two reasons, this correlation approach is thought to be more accurate:
- The number of threaded connections is reduced, resulting in improved tightness and safety;
- On both branches, shut-off valves are installed; in the case of a tee, one common valve is saved.
We remind you that if you plan to communicate on your own, you must coordinate your activities with Gorgaz or Oblgaz employees so that there are no unexpected circumstances that result in costly repairs.
5# Testing for Leaks
Threaded links can be checked for tightness on your own. Arm yourself with a brush and coat them in soapy water to accomplish this.
However, the inspecting employee will draw the final conclusions – he will also check the connection for leaks and then write a conclusion that will include the date of visit, the brands and serial numbers of gas equipment, and the form of connection.
It is not advisable to begin operation prior to the arrival of the gas service technician; in the event of an unintentional leak, the homeowner is solely responsible. However, the most important thing is the safety of those who are next to you, so it is not worth rushing and taking chances.
The intricacies of hooking up to a gas cylinder
Though residential houses and apartments in cities and large villages are linked to natural gas, LPG cylinders are often used in villages and summer cottages. This is because no gas pipeline has been laid near the settlements.
The steps for connecting a gas hob to a cylinder are the same as for connecting a pipe. The difference is that by using tubes, the systems are adjusted to increase the efficiency of the combustion process.
As the cylinder is connected, there is an increase in pressure, resulting in a lack of oxygen. As a result, there is a yellow flame that is rare for gas combustion, as well as a lot of soot. The problem can be solved by substituting LPG analogues for nozzles made for natural gas – methane.
The process of replacing the nozzles is simple; instructions can be found in the installation manual for the device.
All work on the completion of equipment is carried out with the cylinder off – it is connected last. What else do you need to remember when connecting the hob to the LPG?
When using several cylinders, use a connecting ramp to reduce the fuel’s instability and the chance of it freezing in the gearbox.
It is important to test the operation of the hob after installing all of the components. A soap solution was used to check for leaks first. Then unscrew the cylinder valve and change the gearbox. If the flame is yellow or there is a lot of soot, the pressure can be reduced by loosening the valve.
Finally, you should invite an Oblgaz employee to confirm and record the fact that new equipment has been linked. The service will be provided by the appropriate company in the future.
